Match Your Cabinets With Other Kitchen Furniture

When planning and designing your kitchen cabinets, space and functionality will no doubt be your primary concerns. However, attention to style and material will also need to be included in your designs to ensure that you are satisfied with the finished effect.

Your cabinets need to reflect the overall feeling and style of your kitchen. For example, if you are trying to create a traditional kitchen, you may want to use medium to dark woods. The cabinet facades need to match or complement other pieces of kitchen furniture in order to create a harmonious overall effect. French country style cabinets would reflect a more worn, rustic, homely feel, while mission style kitchens would benefit from rugged, square-bodied, dark wood cabinets.

If your style is more contemporary, you may be looking for a minimalist design in chrome, stainless steel or bright colored laminates. These cabinet designs have sleek, clean lines and glide seamlessly into each other. You may want to consider a matching cabinet door front to your refrigerator and dishwasher to maintain the overall effect.

Found Holes In Your Furniture?

In favorable conditions, organic materials including wood and leather are vulnerable to infestation by a variety of insects. A common wooden furniture pest is the powderpost beetle. There are four types of Powderpost beetles in four families. They go through a complete metamorphosis: adults, eggs, larvae and pupae. Though adults do little damage, it is the larvae that do the major damage.

Most furniture manufacturers of repute treat the wood suitably before converting it into furniture. Wood for Amish Oak furniture and other Amish made furniture lasts for generations. Following are the four kind of powderpost beetles explained in detail:

True Powderpost Beetles: The adults are very small, flattened and reddish-brown to black in color. Larvae are white, cream colored, shaped with dark brown heads. Larvae create tunnels in the wood and become pupae. As adults they bore out through the wood, pushing a fine powdery dust out. True Powder post beetles breed in dead and dried hardwoods such as the dead branches and limbs of trees. Old items of furniture and wood antiques are especially vulnerable to attack by the beetles. Damage is usually to the starch-rich sapwood of large-pored hardwoods such as ash, hickory, oak, walnut and cherry. Their diet is starch, sugar and protein in the sapwood of hardwoods Wood that is less than 6% moisture content is seldom attacked .The life cycle averages one year to complete. This wood-boring beetle is the most widespread in the United States. Continue Reading »

The Advantages Of Resin Wicker Furniture

Wicker furniture is something that has been a part of home decor for centuries. Wicker furniture has a rare combination of artistry and craftsmanship that gives it a style that cannot really be matched by any other type of furniture. This makes wicker furniture not only functional pieces of furniture, but also working pieces of art unto themselves. When one looks at the history of wicker furniture, they find that it is one of the only forms of furniture that is not actually affected by the artistic styles of the times, but rather is actually responsible for entire artistic styles.

For instance, there are many trends in Celtic art that take their cues from the patterns and styling of wicker furniture. With all of this influence, one might expect that wicker furniture would stay the same forever. However, that is certainly not the case. As technology has advanced, so too have a few of the methods used to make these ancient marvels of furniture construction, bringing about such things as resin wicker furniture. While it may not seem at first like resin wicker furniture is anything all that special, in truth it answers some of the greatest problems that wicker furniture faces. Continue Reading »

Furniture For Baby

It?s not unusual to get more than is bargained for when purchasing baby furniture sets. Most furniture stores or stores specifically for children’s furniture are usually a good place to find a well-priced set. When most people think about a set they’re likely to picture a pair. However, in the case of baby furniture most sets come with three or more pieces. Most collections include at least five pieces of baby furniture even though some pieces aren’t considered part of the set.

The most common pieces included in baby furniture sets are a dresser and a crib. Typically both will be very beautiful, with most sets being wood construction. If preferred, it may be possible to find a metal crib with a wooden dresser.

Bigger sets will most likely include a changing table with the crib and dresser. These sets usually cost a bit more, but they actually represent significant savings. An armoire or a nightstand may be included in larger sets. The more pieces a set includes, the more it’s going to cost but the set itself may be more valuable than the increase in price suggests.

Employment and Wages in the American Furniture Industry

Total employment in the American furniture industry (household and office segments) stood at 557,000 persons in 2006. Employment in all of manufacturing totaled 14.2 million persons. Thus, the furniture industry accounts for only 3.9% of the manufacturing total, and only 0.4% of the 137 million people in total with jobs in the United States in 2006.

During the past two decades and up to the beginning of this century, furniture employment has been on the rise, a claim that cannot be made by manufacturers in general. However, starting in 2001, furniture employment entered a declining phase. Between 1996 and 2006, the level of furniture industry employment fell by 7.7% while total manufacturing employment fell by 17.6%. The reason for this phenomenon lies in the fact that the furniture industry lends itself less to labor-saving technologies than other industries.

Kitchen cabinet, household and institutional furniture manufacturers employed 66.2% of the people in the overall furniture and fixtures industry. The remaining 33.8%, are employed by office and other furniture manufacturers. Though it still commands the greater share today, kitchen cabinet, household and institutional furniture manufacturers witnessed a gradual erosion in their share of total furniture and fixtures industry employment over the last two decades.

Aeron Chairs on the Rise - The world’s most technically-advanced personal mobility system

The wheelchair has just started from having a simple structure but now, it has evolved into a very fashionable, sophisticated and more well-designed equipment. One good example is the Aeron chair by power wheelchair manufacturer Permobil Inc. which integrates a technically advanced power wheelchair base with Aeron chair components from Herman Miller, Inc.

According to the article Aeron Chair on Wheels which was posted last October 27, 2003 at www.coffeehouse-at-end-of-days.com, the author mentioned that he had a friend who had been confined to a chair for almost 20 years. This condition makes you appreciate what it means for someone to have a really comfortable chair and most wheelchairs are ergonomically terrible. Except for the Aeron chair which is expensive but well worth it.

The Aeron chair features Herman Miller’s proprietary Pellicle suspension as well as tool-free adjustability that provide users with greater control over their comfort and support. This unique Pellicle suspension material conforms to the body and gives dynamic pressure relief over the seat and back for truly customized support. Air also freely circulates through the Pellicle material that avoids heat and moisture build-up and contributes to the user’s long-term comfort.

Egyptian Theme Furniture

It is not uncommon to see people argue over the exact theme portrayed in furniture. With Egyptian theme furniture, this surely is never the case.

Egyptian Theme Furniture

Invoking visions of the time of the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt, replicas of Egyptian theme furniture have continued to find their way into modern decorative schemes. The Egyptians are among the first cultures that have given us insight into their use of furniture because so many pictures have been found in the tombs uncovered. The furniture was made mostly from wood, and the passing years have deteriorated them to dust. However, some pieces have survived to give us a better idea, and to confirm that the drawings represented furniture the way it actually was in the homes of the nobles of Egypt three thousand years ago.

The Egyptians combined their practical and their artistic sides in their furniture design. They had a great deal of respect for nature and the natural world, and this is reflected also. One of the first and most basic items of Egyptian theme furniture was the simple stool. It seems to have been a staple item in every Egyptian home. It was covered with pictures of animals, and its feet were often carved into the shape of animal’s feet or claws. Folding stools were common. They were most likely first used by armies while in the field, but soon found their way into homes. Continue Reading »

Article Marketing Mastery And Sexy Lawn Furniture

Article marketing mastery sounds more like an unattainable ideal than an actual destination doesn’t it?

I don’t expect to ever leave my trusty Dell one day, after writing an article and say “Damn. Nailed it. Time to ‘master’ something else.”

It won’t happen. And that’s the beauty of all of this.

Progress not perfection.

While I was a copywriter at J Walter Thompson and Young & Rubicam in New York, we creatives would get literally drained by the amount of times we would have to present our ideas. Internally and to the all mighty clients who pay all the bills. Present to this person, present to that person. Get on a plane to Atlanta, present. Go to focus groups, present.

One of the tricks that we came up with during all of that tedium was a game where we would try and insert a phrase into meetings with the head clients. Simple phrase…were totally unique but also HAD NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH WHAT WE WERE TRYING TO SELL THEM.
